Armed robbers on Wednesday raided a major pools office, Telegraph Nigeria Enterprises in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and killed the son of the pool agent in the process.
The armed robbers had parked their ash Toyota Corolla vehicle at the front of the pool office on 34, Nsukka Street, Port Harcourt at about 11.50am, before rushing into the building.
Our correspondent gathered that the hoodlums, who were four in number, entered into the office and opened fire on some of its occupants.
Armed with AK-47 rifles, the bandits shot the owner of the pool office, identified as Olukayode, on his left hand before going for his two sons.
Olukayode’s two sons, Femi and Jamiu were shot at close range before the hoodlums took away an unidentified sum of money in a box, suspected to be stakers’ winnings.
While Femi, who was shot in the leg, was immediately rushed to the hospital with his father, Jamiu was confirmed dead at the gate of Teme Clinic.
Jamiu was said to have been shot in the stomach, which made it difficult for him to survive the attack.
“Jamiu was a very nice guy. The armed robbers should have spared his life. We are not sure if he struggled with the armed robbers before he was shot,” an eyewitness, who claimed to be Jamiu’s friend, said.
Both Olukayode and Femi, who were bleeding profusely before being rushed out of the pool office, are currently receiving treatment in a nearby hospital.
Policemen, who were usually found on Nsukka Street, disappeared when the incident occurred.
But the Public Relations Officer of the state command, Mr. Akin Fakorede, confirmed the incident and said that security agents were on the trail of the robbers.
Fakorede added that the hoodlums shot and killed one person while two others were rushed to the hospital.
